A two-year-old boy has died after being found floating unconscious in a backyard pool in Sydney’s north west this morning.
CareFlight’s rapid response trauma team were called to the home in Stanhope Gardens shortly after 10am where neighbours were frantically performing CPR on the toddler.
Landing about 300 metres away at Blacktown Leisure Centre, CareFlight’s specialist doctor and paramedic were rushed to the scene by police and joined ambulance paramedics in resuscitation attempts.
They continued to apply a range of intensive care techniques in a road ambulance en route to Westmead Children’s Hospital.
He could not be revived and was pronounced dead soon after arrival at Westmead. Police investigations are continuing.
“As we go into summer it’s an early reminder about the need for constant vigilance whenever young children and toddlers are near swimming pools, however secure they might seem,” CareFlight spokesman Mark Lever said.
