THERE is lucky and then there is two-year-old Liam Dewinter, who survived a 2.5m fall on to concrete virtually unscathed yesterday.
Liam was on a small landing above stairs leading from the second storey of his Norah Head home when he slipped beneath a horizontal railing shortly before 2pm. It is the third serious balcony fall on the Central Coast in less than a fortnight.
Liam’s aunt Stephanie O’Neil was downstairs hosing off a slip and slide just metres away when the toddler fell. “I turned around and heard the bang,’’ Ms O’Neil said.
“He screamed and started crying … I was just in shock.’’
Ms O’Neill said she was relieved the boy was conscious and crying, given the height of the fall. Paramedics rushed to the scene but found Liam with “no visible injury’’.
An Ambulance NSW spokesman said Liam was “alert and stable’’ but he was flown by Westpac Helicopter to John Hunter Children’s Hospital as a precaution.
He said while the boy was conscious he was too young to clearly communicate with paramedics and alert them to any potential injuries.
